Manual transmissions today are very similar to automatic transmissions, very complex. They also vary between four and eight speeds and in some cases via a computer can operate as automatic transmissions (this is a trend happening around the world) for fuel economy reasons.
Very specialized equipment is needed to repair a manual transmission. It is recommended to use synthetic oil for 4WD application and towing. The most common causes of transmission failure is due to faulty clutch mechanism, overloading and lack of servicing.
