Automatic Transmissions are a very complex piece of equipment. Modern
transmissions today have between four and eight gear ratios and are
controlled by a computer to perform all functions required for the most
optimal performance of a vehicle.
There are up to
eighteen sensors over the vehicle feeding information to the computer
i.e. engine rpm, air and water temperature, road speed, cruise control,
braking, air conditioning, GPS signals, power, winter and economy modes
to name a few.
The transmission
unit consists of over seven hundred components connected to a computer,
with an average of three kilometers of wiring. It operates under high
oil pressure and the operating temperature varies from minus 20C to
140C.
It is essential
that you have highly trained personnel and equipment to repair a transmission
to meet QA standards.
